When someone asks why private pet transportation costs more than a typical ride, we understand. Families want excellent care for their pets, and they also want to understand what they are paying for. The simplest answer is that The Pet Taxi® is not a regular rideshare service. We provide private, pet-only transportation with a transportation plan tailored to each pet and each journey.
You are reserving a private service
Each ride is reserved for one family’s pets. We do not combine unrelated pets into one route, and we do not transport human passengers. That means the trip is organized around your pet’s appointment, pickup and destination rather than a shared route with multiple stops. Private service also means staff time is reserved for preparation, coordination and the journey itself.
Professional handling and the right equipment matter
Pets are not luggage. Some travel calmly; others are nervous, elderly, recovering from surgery or unable to jump into a vehicle. Our team plans for appropriate loading, secure restraint and comfortable transport, with equipment such as ramps, lifting harnesses, carriers, supportive bedding and gurneys available when suitable. We also maintain vehicles, cleaning procedures and insurance appropriate to the work we do.
The journey may involve far more than driving
For certain appointments, families ask us to coordinate a hospital handoff, provide approved appointment accompaniment, wait during a visit or make a return trip. These services require time and attention beyond the miles on a map. We discuss the arrangement before the trip so everyone understands what is included and what may require additional time or personnel.
How pricing works
Our online fare estimator helps customers explore the cost of an eligible trip. Rates depend on the applicable service-area pricing tier, distance, expected travel time and requested services. A simple starting example for Palm Beach County is a $125 base fare plus $3 per mile and $2 per minute; other county tiers and circumstances can differ. Always rely on the current estimate or a confirmed quote rather than treating this example as a universal flat rate.
How to choose the right service
If your pet needs only an occasional short trip, consider what matters most to you: exclusive transport, experienced handling, appointment coordination, mobility equipment or a private return journey. Compare services by their policies, insurance, animal-handling practices and what the price actually includes—not only the advertised cost per mile.
